3rd
World Farmer is a very thought provoking game. It is a well put
together simulation game which mimics the life a farming family in a
3rd world country. You pick what crops to grow, livestock to buy,
shelters to build, equipment to buy, and modern improvements to
invest in. Beware, every year an event happens. A disease may wipe
out one of your types of livestock/crops, or a tornado may destroy
your shed. Even worse, one of your family members may get very ill.
These are all hardships that the people of the 3rd world countries
endure everyday. The simulator allows you to manage your family by
sending children to school, marrying off children, having a baby, or
leaving in the family. You have to keep them healthy which can cost
quite a bit. Once your family (laborers) are under control, you have
to choose how you want to spend the little money you gain. Different
crops produce different yields each year, so don't get too
comfortable in your planting strategy. I really enjoyed this game.
It helps open your eyes as well as force you to adjust to the tough
factors.
Viva
Caligula is a Roman adventure game made by the the people at Adult
Swim. The idea of the game is pretty simple, but it is still very
addicting. You are a Roman soldier whose simple goal is to purge
everyone in Rome. Along the way you can pick up food and wine for
health as well as 26 different attacks. Each attack is a key on the
keyboard. So you can kill using D (the dagger attack), or when you
find the F attack you can set the enemies on fire. There are several
unique and fun attacks to find in 7 different sections of Rome. I
think you will enjoy this fun and addictive game.
Desktop
Defense is one of the best tower defense games I have ever played.
It is a toss up between Desktop Defense and Onslaught for my
favorite. This game provides several game types and challenges.
There are several types of towers to choose from and different types
of creeps to defend from. This game will keep you stuck to the
screen for hours. See if you can beat their 100 level challenge or
if you can build a fixed map that will survive all the waves. No
matter which way to play is your favorite, you will have a great
time playing this game.
Onslaught
is a simple game that will keep you addicted for hours. It is a
tower defense game where you are trying to defend area 51 from the
attackers. Build and upgrade towers while getting money for every
kill you get. The graphics are simple, but the game will keep you
entertained for hours on hours. This is a great play.
This
is a very interesting reaction time game put out by the BBC. The key
is not to let the sheep escape the flock by hitting them with
tranquilizer darts. The web site records how long it takes you to
see the sheep take off and click the dart button. You have 5
attempts to see how fast you can click. Then you are rated based on
a scale of 5 which starts with sluggish snail and ends with
turbo-charged cheetah. Tell your friends and see who can get the
fastest times. This game won't keep you occupied for hours, but it
is definitely worth a few minutes of your time.
Mansion
Impossible is a simple real estate simulation game. You have a view
of a neighborhood, and you can buy and sell houses as the property
moves up and then eventually down. Don't buy too late or you will
lose money. Start by buying small houses and end up buying large
estates. The purpose is to buy the one million dollar mansion. This
game will keep you entertained for awhile.
Escapa
is a very simple yet addicting game. The game is no more complex
than the image to the left. The point is to grab the red square with
your mouse and keep it in the white area without letting any of the
blue boxes run into it. It sounds simple, but it can be very
difficult and irritating. The game page says that 18 seconds is a
very good time. I completely agree with them. Check out this web
site and see if you can beat the 18 seconds. It may be simple, but
this game could keep you entertained for 30 minutes to an hour.
Virtual
Pilot is a game based on knowing the geography of Europe. A plane
will take off to a given destination, and you have to click the city
the plane is going to land in on the map. The closer you get to the
correct city, the more points you get. Easy levels have major city
markers, but later levels just give you the land mass. Good luck
with this one. I hope you paid attention in geography class in
school.
